I'll urge people from especially from California and Texas send out the letters and call up their lawmakers...Despite the Anti-immigrant climate prevailing in the country, congresswoman Zoe Logfren was able to get her bill passed on wednesday....If we can proove to them that we are not asking new green card numbers and not ask for recapturing green card numbers, they'll certainly hear us, but we need to speak up...

It took almost 3 months to get the approval. Key points:
1. USCIS does not accept I-140 PP as the original Labor approval is not included.
2. I am not sure if USCIS requests a duplicate copy of labor from DOL or they locate the orginal labor in the old file.
3. Make sure you ask your employer to download the labor approval from DOL website and complete it (employer's signature and your signature) and send it along with the I-140 application.

You cannot become a Canadian Citizen, just because you are on H1 in the US. The only advantage is you can apply for Permanent Residency from the US, which is much faster than applying from India. Once, you get your Green Card, you still should maintain residency in Canda, before you apply for Citizenship.
Ria, You can apply for Canadian Permanent Residency by urself. You dont need to hire people to do it. I did it by myself, and it is very easy.

it is advisable not to leave the country while H1 extension is pending and you cannot lie to the immigration officer at the port of entry. if they take your I-94 while leaving (if going to Mexico, they generally do not take I-94) then you may have a problem reentering and you may have to wait until H1 extension is approved and then reenter using the new H1 approval.
Mine is not h1 extension but what is called transfer - Company A to company B. Can I not enter using Company A's documents as they did not cancel my h1b and wont cancel it either. Also I will get pay stub from them till jul 15 for work done till jun 20th.

I like what is going on with what you are doing. The one thing that doesn't look good is that you have shadows going in different directions (i.e. chess pieces, clock, text). The board does not have a shadow at all. I think if you had added a shadow from the board it would look way more realistic.

Anyone heard anything yet?
Supposedly they take a max of 11 weeks but it worries me that I do not even see any LUDs.
I guess it is a waiting game just like everything else with them.

From all the discussion above, it's clear bigoted minuteman types who came up with this brilliant tactic of pushing point based system to delay and deny any type of immigration reform this year are winning rhetorical victory.

I am trying to book an appointment at the chennai consulate through the vfs website.
I fill in all the details on the DS 156 application and on hitting continue I do not seem to be getting the printable version with the bar code that we need to print and take to the consulate during the interview.
Another thing is after clicking on continue I am presented with a page to fill in the DS 157 and petition details and after filling that, I just get options to save and exit or go back.
I am not getting options to select a date to schedule the interview.
Any one who has done this recently please hlep, I am stuck witth this stupid thing for a couple of days now.... Please help ;(

make sure you have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed

that for some reason had better luck when using IE (was trying with Firefox before)

Whatever the results I think there will be attempts to revive CIR in 2009 including increase of H1b and Greencard numbers. The increase of H1b may come with some reform to minimise the abuse of h1b. But the fate of any bill depends on the contents of the bill. If the bill is really a compromise with moderate numbers then it will be passed. If the bill is one sided then the fate of the bill is uncertain.
Depends on how the CIR is crafted. To bring the republicans on board, it may have biz friendly provisions and hence may be beneficial for us all.
Last time there was a point based system which was meant to replace the Employment based system; big biz hated that idea. They might introduce a point based system in addition to the employment based stream. It would be specially great if it has its own quota. We may be relief in form of permanent number capture: numbers wasted are automatically rolled over to next year.

Yes. Thats true. My cousin is in the law school here and he says that the laziest or weakest in the class go for immigration law (usually, there are exceptions) as it's "easy" most of the time you are just filing forms and immigrant like us pay on time, are polite and dont cause them "stress".
A lot of them have "UNPAID" interns, usually law students, do all the work while they are hardly working (playing golf, socializing..) and then they sign all these forms in 20-30 minutes, if they decide to work that day.
Such is the story of lot of immigration lawyers. A lot of us I am sure do not like their lawyers.
Lawyers do not even read the full application properly. They delegate the responsibility of reading and writing applications to their trainees and paralegals. I do not even know why lawyers charge such heavy fees for not doing any hard work. Lawyers do not even tell you which documents to send when you file application. They keep asking documents one by one. Can't they keep a list of all documents for each application form and send it to their clients in advance. Such problems are faced with people who have both big lawyers and small lawyers.
Another thing. I saw the list of top lawyers by bestlawyers.com and saw their selection criteria. It seems lawyers select each other. I wish they had clients rating lawyers and not peer review.

Just to clarify...., the advance parole should be valid when you are entering the country, not while leaving right?
Well, I have a current advance parole that expires on October 12, 2008 and I applied for a renewal. Once my AP gets approved (assuming the new AP starts from October 12, 2008) I am planning to leave the country in September (before start of second AP) and re-enter after October 12 using my second AP. Do you guys see any problem in this? Of-course, I will leave only if my second AP is approved in before I leave.
As as dated Oct 12, 2008, on or after this date.

I believe the 180 days starts from the day of 485 notice date and not 140 approval. I had confirmed this with my attorney (both my personal one and the companies )before making the shift and I had and RFE on my 485 in June 09 and nothing after that. I would assume that USCIS was happy with my response and the case might have been pre-adjudicated.
As per Ron, one cannot apply for H1B renewals based on revoked 140's. I wanted to see if anyone here has done it successfully. I will check with my attorney as well as my companies attorney.
